Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean is perhaps mostly synonymous with Country music, although she will also be deeply remembered as being a ‘Coat of Many Colours’ such as an actress, philanthropist, musician, singer songwriter and a businesswoman.

Her passing has come as a shock to most, despite her posting earlier this year about health issues. Like any passing, it’s hard to process and comprehend. They’ve always been a feature in our lives, prominently, or just a strong influence to our lives that it’s hard not to knock the wind out of your sails. However the outpouring of grief should also be met with gratitude and blessing, for having her as a steady influence, support and trailblazer to so many more of our aspiring singer songwriters.

Dolly was widely regarded as being a trailblazer for women in Country music at a time when women weren’t taken seriously in the industry. Her courage and strength to stand up for women in music is something that has benefited generations. With a career spanning more than 60 years, it’s hard pressed to find someone not influenced or inspired by the late Queen of Country.

Best known for hits such as ‘9 to 5’, ‘Jolene’, ‘Islands In The Stream’, ‘Coat Of Many Colours’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ to name but a few; the latter more widely considered to be about parting lovers, but was written when she left The Porter Wagner show in 1974 after tensions rose over her increasing popularity and drive for a solo career. The song is well known following Whitney Houston’s now iconic power ballad version featured in ‘The Bodyguard’ film.

The Queen of Country had such a positive and endearing perspective that is revered by many. She was a light in the lives of many, even inspiring contemporary Country artist Lainey Wilson to ponder ‘WWDD - What Would Dolly Do?’

Dolly was a visionary with her songwriting, capturing the very essence of every emotion in her songs and through her storytelling. This is perhaps why she has become widely adored and respected by many, both by fellow artists and listeners alike.

Whilst we mourn the passing of a legend, we are now entrusted to continue her great legacy in sharing positivity and joy through music, encouraging people to utilise songwriting not only as a possible career, but as means of therapy

💔🪽 RIP to a legend and a Queen!

A remarkable woman, icon and trailblazer, she will forever be loved, adored and remembered for her positive energy and her timeless classic hits. May she live on in us all. RIP Dolly! 💔🪽🤠
